15 Monsignor Scanlan Students attended an engineering conference on Thursday, October 5th sponsored by Engineering Tomorrow. The conference featured interactive demonstrations and presentations by high level engineering professionals, provided students with exposure to real world engineering disciplines and the global challenges engineering solutions address. Students were challenged with problems to solve in group settings and the experiments focused on catapults and water re-use.
The students had to create a catapult and determine which angles would be best to launch for the ball to specific distances. They were given a wiffle ball, ping pong ball and spongy golf ball so the difference in weight was another variable for them to account for. At the end they used their data to create an algorithm that would allow them to pinpoint a marked distance to “score a bucket.” All three of our teams were successful.
